The Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) is transforming mobile networks by introducing open interfaces, disaggregated architectures, and programmability. By reducing dependence on proprietary solutions, O-RAN enables greater interoperability, flexibility, and intelligent network optimization, making it a promising research direction for 5G and 6G systems.
However, deploying O-RAN in practice presents significant challenges, particularly in hardware-software integration, synchronization, and real-time performance monitoring. Beyond establishing a functional network, researchers also need flexible experimental environments to observe network behavior, control traffic scenarios, and collect performance measurements.
To address these challenges, we have developed an end-to-end O-RAN testbed based on OpenAirInterface and commercial radio equipment, extending it into a web-based experimentation platform that integrates network monitoring, traffic control, and experimental data management.
This platform not only facilitates O-RAN experimentation but also provides a foundation for future research on RAN Intelligent Controllers (RIC), xApp development, and AI-driven closed-loop optimization, moving toward more autonomous and intelligent radio access networks.
