Network calculus is a theoretical framework for performance guarantees in communication networks. Here we present a first introduction to some fundamental concepts and principles in network calculus, including:

  • Arrival curve,
  • Leaky bucket,
  • Deterministic guarantees on queueing delay and backlog,
  • The min-plus algebra and its connection with system theory.
